Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Will I be able to drive on the course in between races?
A: No. Once the roads are closed in the morning, traffic will not be allowed until the closures are reopened after the completion of racing that evening.
Q: What if I have an emergency? Will an ambulance or fire truck be able to get to my house?
A: Yes. Police and Fire will be able to get your property by an alternate route if necessary.
Q: I am supposed to have a large delivery (e.g., appliance, building material, etc.) that day, will I be able to receive my delivery?
A: Maybe. If your residence is on Church between Walters and Shermer, once the road is closed, no vehicles will be allowed on the road. It is advised to reschedule delivery. If your residence is south of Walters and west of the river, only vehicles that can safely fit on Lorenz Dr are allowed. It is advised to reschedule delivery. If you live anywhere else, the delivery driver should be able to reach your residence by an alternate route.
Q: Where will outside visitors park on the day of the event?
A: Racers and spectators are asked to park in one of four locations: the Metra parking lot, Techny Prairie Park & Fields, 1657 Shermer (former Grainger Property), and Northbrook Junior High School.
Q: What happens if I forget to move my car the day of the race?
A: Residents who live along the course on either Walters or Church streets are encouraged to park their cars at Meadowbrook School either Wednesday night or Thursday morning before 5 AM. Once the roads are closed to traffic, no vehicles will be allowed on the course.
Q: What happened if my vehicle is parked on streets comprising the racecourse?
A: Residents are encouraged to find alternate parking during the day of the race. In the days leading up to the event, “No Parking” signs will be placed along the course as a reminder. Any vehicles on the course after approximately 5 AM Thursday morning will be towed at the owner’s expense after a good faith effort to contact the owner to move the vehicle.
Q: I live on the racecourse, are spectators going to be standing in front of my house or on my lawn?
A: We expect a lively but respectful crowd for the races. Spectators should not stand or sit on front lawns without a homeowner’s permission. However, it is likely that spectators may stand or sit on the sidewalk or boulevard.
Q: How will I get my mail or other packages that are supposed to be delivered that day?
A: Usually mail is delivered on foot when roads are closed. Often, Amazon and similar services will also deliver packages on foot. However, large deliveries should be rescheduled.
Q: Why do roads need to be closed so early if racing starts at 11:00 AM?
A: Roads will start being closed at 5:00 AM to ensure that the closures can be done safely with fewer vehicles on the road; to ensure motorists or commuters are not stuck within the road closure; and to give the race organization a safe work zone in order to setup the course, stage, etc. without conflicts from vehicles.
Q: How loud will the race be?
A: Not nearly as loud as a musical concert but approximately the same decibel level as a high school football game. Race begins at 11 AM and ends by 8:15 PM.
Q: What if spectators leave garbage in front of my home?
A: After the race, the race organization will remove garbage and recycling from the streets, sidewalks, and yards along the course.
Q: I have a question not addressed by this letter, who do I contact?
A: Contact the Local Organizing Committee via email at NBGrandPrix@gmail.com.
